Tripping

So I just came back from vacation in Florida visiting my family, which was an extremely large amount of fun for me as I have very little family back here in Connecticut. Over the break I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to any new music, but I did have a revelation on the plane that “Intro”, not “VCR” was actually my favorite song by the xx. That thing is pure genius. Then I got to thinking about it, and a lot of my favorite albums from the past year had instrumental introductions, which I love because it means that artists are making real albums and not just singles. Having woken up at 4:30 this morning to catch my flight I’m crazy exhausted so here’s some intros. (If you don’t have any of these albums you must get on it.)

The Sleeping Patterns – Introduction

The xx – Intro

The Decemberists – Prelude

Here Comes the Waves!

For those Decemberists fans out there, you’ll likely know about the Hazards of Love visualization (I suppose music video wouldn’t be quite accurate), entitled Here Come the Waves. I’ve seen the trailers and snippets and it looks very artsy (I daresay maybe too artsy?) but I await it anxiously and will inevitably watch it all the way through when released. I hearted Hazards when it came out, and while I had cooled on it a little bit, listening again makes me realize that it is really fantastic and pretty underrated by the indie community I think.
