Yes, I’m a Couch Potato.

So what. It’s college basketball season. Maybe I’ll leave the couch when the UConn women win by less than 25. In the meantime, here’s a song from Department of Eagles. “Phantom Other” is a killer song, written and sung by Grizzly Bear’s guitarist Daniel Rossen. If you can, listen to it with some big ole headphones – this song sounds amazing.

Daniel Rossen – Waterfall (Judee Sill Cover)

daniel_rossen

Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen is a beast at guitar. When he’s not making music with these three weirdos, Rossen records acoustic tracks featuring his academic jazz-guitar background and his distinctive vocals. Here’s one such track, a song called “Waterfall” that Rossen recorded for a compilation album in tribute to Judee Sill. I hope you like it.

In Case You Don’t Live In Japan…

Veckatimest_bonus_disk

Here’s an alternate version of “All We Ask,” off of Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest. It’s a piano demo that was released as a bonus track on the Japanese version of the album, and it’s pretty saucy. I hope you like it.

This Is A Terrible Remix

ChrisTaylor

Terrible Records is the name of Chris Taylor’s new record label. Chris Taylor is the bassist from Grizzly Bear, and now he’s going to be releasing some solo material going by the name CANT. He recently released his first single under the CANT moniker, a song called “Ghosts.” To boot, Taylor remixed a song by The Notwist called “Boneless,” giving it the Grizzly Bear treatment. Both songs are worth a listen. Both songs are below. Whoa! I CANT believe it.

Wednesday Night With Grizzly Bears

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear

Last night, I went to see Grizzly Bear with Beach House in Minneapolis. Beach House was good, but their music isn’t really exciting to see live, and that’s just how it goes. As for Grizzly Bear, I can’t say enough about how great they are. Easily my favorite band at the moment. Take a look and see if they’re coming to a town near you.

Video: While You Wait For The Others

Here’s a great video for Grizzly Bear’s song, “While You Wait For The Others,” off of their newest album, Veckatimest. It was directed by Sean Pecknold, brother of Robin Pecknold, who’s the lead singer of Fleet Foxes. Many thanks to Matt over at You Ain’t No Picasso for posting the video. Enjoy.
