Open Up Your Throat

I don’t know how I’ve been here for three semesters without knowing about this group! I must join!

Noah talks, and I listen

Animal Collective(Noah having fun and being awkward with his band buddies)

There’s likely no band that embodies the spirit behind indie music better than Animal Collective. The three/foursome is arguably the most influential band this decade, releasing 8 studio albums this decade, 6 of which are truly remarkable, 1 of which is a bit odd, and 1 of which is completely off the deep end (sorry Danse Manatee fans! I guess I fear what I don’t understand….) What’s more, these albums aren’t the only music that’s come out of the group. Noah Lennox (Panda Bear, but doesn’t everyone know that by now?)  has released two solo albums this decade, and one way back in ‘98 that I’ll admit never having listened to.

Well he recently sat down to talk to Pedestrian.tv, an interview in which he sheds light on his forthcoming LP, which is highly anticipated given all the noise its predecessor Person Pitch. Simply put, Person Pitch is a masterpiece and mostly everyone knows it.

Check out the interview here. And below is one of Noah’s fantastic, fairly recent efforts with Bradford Cox.

New Animal Collective Video: In The Flowers

Our favorite psychedelic rockers have released another video, this time for Merriweather opener “In The Flowers.” It’s a pretty sweet video, filled with flowers and a large amount of random objects. The explosion that happens about halfway through (I really hope everyone’s heard this song by now) is definitely a pretty gripping moment. Pretty artsy, pretty trippy, but I’ve already watched it three times, so I guess it has my personal seal of approval, if that means anything. Great video for a great song off a great album (the best of ‘09?? We’ll see…) Here’ s the link off Animal Collective’s homepage.

Strawberry Jam Tastes Right Today

ac-strawberryjamLast night my friend Charles reminded me about Animal Collective’s album, Strawberry Jam. I forget about Animal Collective sometimes, I’m not sure how. Here’s “Derek” – I love the lyrics and the bizarrely familiar melody that has been stuck in my head all morning.

Mix: Beginning of Fall

Autumn

Very sadly, it’s starting to get colder here in CT, and my blogmates in NY and MN aren’t faring much better I suspect.. Fall makes me think of a lot of songs, and being back at school in particular brings up a lot of particular genres. This is a mix of songs that were on repeat last fall and songs that have been on repeat so far this fall.

Collective Session

Animal_Collective

So me and Chandler decided to go up to Ithaca to visit Bishop the other day, and we listened to Radiohead all the way there. On the way back however, we needed a band with a similarly extensive catalog, so we turned to none other than Animal Collective. The journey through Animal Collective’s past was a bizarre one, much more telling and informative than Radiohead’s, who have always had a good degree of polish on their music. (For anyone wondering, we skipped Danse Manatee, because we’re not sadistic) After the murky journey, there was something about the gorgeous, upbeat nature of “Chocolate Girl” that uplifted me after my very long journey. Here’s hoping that it uplifts you as well.
