Joanna Newsom- Have One On Me
In case you hadn’t been paying attention, Joanna Newsom’s newest album since ‘06 hit stores yesterday to considerable amount of praise. Spanning over 2 hours on 3 cds, everyone’s favorite harpist turns in an effort that can be categorized as nothing short of epic. In fact, the only complaint I can possibly make is that it’s just too much material, which, in fairness, shouldn’t be a complaint. But I just can’t find 2 hours to sit down and listen to this thing in it’s entirety, and listening to it in fragments doesn’t seem like it does it justice. In any event, fans of Joanna or newly recruited fans (I must be placed in the latter) will find a sound that resembles her past efforts, but at the same time is fresh and new. In addition to it’s length, most of these songs are very dense, and like all great music, they require many listens to fully appreciate. Basically what I’m saying is that I won’t really have a grasp on this album for some time, after I’ve let everything soak in. In the meantime, you should pick this up and let us know what you think of it.
