Hot Chip- One Life Stand
The other interesting releases this week were Yeasayer’s Odd Blood and Gil Scott-Heron’s I’m New Here. The former is pretty hit or miss, the latter I need to invest more time to, so that leaves us with the new Hot Chip record. While that synthy, dance pop sound that was evident in their previous efforts also occurs in this one, there’s a much more mature feel here. With more sentimentality and a greater focus on lyrics, One Life Stand feels like a step in a fresh direction for the band, and has got me excited for what they turn out next. Here’s the album opener, which also happens to be one of the dancier tracks.
