2009 was a great year for music. So great that this top 10 was rather hard to decide on, and it left out a whole lot of goodness. Here’s the top nine albums we could all agree on that we liked, and the top album and our personal lists after the jump.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Animal Collective has made some of the most unique, inspiring music for the past decade, and this year they released what many people consider to be their best effort yet. Without a weak song on the record, “My Girls” stood out as the crown jewel and captured the ears of the masses, gathering a whole new group of fans. Along with the recently released Fall Be Kind EP and its fantastic “What Would I Want? Sky”, this was officially the year of AniCol. And they deserved it.

Great list/lists guys. I don’t know who out of all of you I’d get along with the best, but judging by your ind. lists, I’d guess Bishop or Donovan. (Although Donovan would more than likely punch me in the face after the tenth time I asked him to play ‘Mellow Yellow’) Seriously, how great are the Antlers?
Haha, I’m so afraid to listen to Donovan it’s not even funny. And as Bishop is the “black sheep” of the gang, I’m guessing you’d get along better with me.
