Tripping

So I just came back from vacation in Florida visiting my family, which was an extremely large amount of fun for me as I have very little family back here in Connecticut. Over the break I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to any new music, but I did have a revelation on the plane that “Intro”, not “VCR” was actually my favorite song by the xx. That thing is pure genius. Then I got to thinking about it, and a lot of my favorite albums from the past year had instrumental introductions, which I love because it means that artists are making real albums and not just singles. Having woken up at 4:30 this morning to catch my flight I’m crazy exhausted so here’s some intros. (If you don’t have any of these albums you must get on it.)

The Antlers – Prologue

The Sleeping Patterns – Introduction

The xx – Intro

The Decemberists – Prelude

-Donovan

I don’t really agree with “instrumental introductions, which I love because it means that artists are making real albums and not just singles” you can obviously make “real albums” without instrumental. However I love instrumental too in albums, it’s like taking a deep breath. and I’m especially thinking about the CD2 of In Rainbows at this point.
