The hype surrounding Fleet Foxes died down a while ago. They were the darlings of ‘08, and that summer was filled with complete, non-stop Fleet Foxes, listening to album so much that every musical nook and cranny became memorized and cherished.

But 2009 was a year about forgetting about Fleet Foxes. I heard The Rural Alberta Advantage in December of ‘08 and was instantly obsessed with another band, another sound. Since then, we’ve been bouncing around, and Fleet Foxes, while remaining a solid record, certainly doesn’t get the play time it once enjoyed. But that’s all about to change.

Sound the bells of joy, for Robin Pecknold is set to return again. He recently sat down for an interview with influential pitchfork where he talks about many things, including going on tour, some potential side projects, why he deleted his twitter (truly a tragic twitter moment) and where the band is going on this next record. Most exciting is the confirmation that the album will drop in 2010, though he does mention it will likely come in the latter part of the year.

After reading it, I’m not sure what to expect. I trust Pecknold’s musical instincts, but I have to admit that I think a sophomore slump isn’t impossible here. Their first album fit together so perfectly it’s kind of hard to wonder where they’re going to go from here.

Here’s to that next bunch of songs being as good as the first bunch.
