Laura Gibson
I recently got the recommendation to listen to Laura Gibson from my blogmate, Christopher, and I’ve been absolutely loving everything I’ve heard so far. She’s fantastically minimalistic, and though the songs are certainly not too simple, they certainly let you focus on the beauty of the composition. As I become enamored with the music of yet another Pacific Northwesterner, I must wonder what it is about that particular geographic region that entices me so. If I had to guess, I’d say the general irreverence of the area is a major factor. Laura released her third album with HUSH, Beasts of Seasons, earlier this year in February, but it’s only reaching my ears now, showing why I need to get more in tune with the Portland music scene. My favorite off the album is most certainly the epic opener, “Shadows on Parade,” but due to its length I’ll let you figure out how good it is when you buy it (please buy it, won’t you?) Here’s another fantastic cut off the album though!!
