Interpreting the Masters
Here’s a Hall & Oates Cover sweet song by The Bird & The Bee. If you don’t have this entire album, you’re seriously missing out. It’s unbelievably good.

In addition to having the coolest album cover so far this year, particularly due to the face of the kid on the right, Wolf Parade has also managed to put out an album that merely suffices when it comes to my expectations. This isn’t to say this is a bad album. It’s good. The problem is that Spencer and the boys have shown what amazing work they’re capable of with their debut album, which keeps me waiting for when/if they’ll return to that form. The upside is that with all the projects Spencer is involved with, we’re bound to get more from him soon in some way. Here’s the opener, as well as a gem from Apologies to The Queen Mary.

These snazzy looking dudes are The Prisonaires, a singing group of convicts from Tennessee that blew up in the 50’s with their song “Just Walkin’ In The Rain”. I love how old this recording sounds, and I hope that someday this kind of music comes back around into popularity. Stranger things have happened.

So I have a few extra minutes here, and this story is so cool and dear to my heart that I had to spread the word to people who hadn’t heard about it yet. Last year, Rage Against the Machine promised their fans that if they got their song “Killing in the Name” the Christmas No. 1 in the UK, they would put on a free concert to show their appreciation. Well, both of those things happened. What’s better is that they beat out Simon Cowell’s show X Factor, the winners of which had won Christmas No. 1 the last four years. It’s just great to hear the boys where they belong and sounding great, especially because Tom wasn’t trying his whole Nightwatchman thing. It looks like a fun time, and I’ll always remember Rage as the show where I feared most for my life. In a good way. Here’s the intro, which helps pump up the crowd and blast Simon Cowell, along with the band’s opener “Testify,” and a Rage rarity after the video.

I don’t know how it is possible, but f/k has yet to give Bob Dylan his own post. I am here to give him the respect he deserves.

So this is another one of those times where the HH is late, but ya know what? I think it’s worth it this time. I won’t say a lot this week because I’m very tired and don’t have much to say. This debut from the hyped NY band came out the 25th, and it’s been playing on my IPod as I bop around to and from work ever since. It’s reverb done right, it’s catchy and it’s just a great little release. Hopefully the next HH will be on time, but one can never be too sure.

I’ve been listening to this song nonstop for the past three days, and it’s still just as good as the first time I heard it. It’s simple and badass, a perfect song for the beginning of summer.
